Counseling Supervision

Sarasota Grief Counseling offers individual and group supervision to Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns who have completed a Masters degree.

What is counseling supervision?

One of the most important parts of becoming a counselor is gaining clinical and administrative experience so that you're well prepared for the challenges that practice will present. A required component of your training, counseling supervision provides the structure necessary to deliver your clients the best care and ensure you're adhering to ethical, legal, and professional standards as you embark on your career as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

How it Works

Within two years of graduating, Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns must accrue 1,500 hours of face-to-face psychotherapy with clients and 100 hours of supervision under a qualified supervisor. Counselor Supervision at Sarasota Grief Counseling offers the framework you need to satisfy those requirements and complete your training in order to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Each hour in our office will include review of your self reports, process notes, and audio & video recordings plus expertise and advice on organizing your practice and managing the administrative functions of counseling.

Why Sarasota Grief Counseling?

Choosing where you'll complete your supervision hours is as important as choosing where you earn your graduate degree.

Supervision at Sarasota Grief Counseling will prepare you for the range of mental and emotional disorders that you'll encounter as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, ensuring that you can confidently navigate the principles and practices of diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and referral.

We're dedicated to providing a path to private practice for those who wish to pursue it. We'll help you develop your own professional identity as a counselor and provide you with the dialogue necessary to answer foundational questions:

  • Who will be my target population?
  • What modalities resonate with me, and how should I employ those in my practice?
  • What niche can I fill in my community?

We believe in helping counseling interns find their own way—not defining it for them. At Sarasota Grief Counseling, you'll be empowered to forge your own path as a mental health professional through exploration of various modalities and specializations under the experienced guidance of Executive Director Karen L. Hildreth, MA MHC, LMHC. Sarasota Grief Counseling meets the 2016 CACREP Standards and the ACA Code of Ethics as set forth by the ACA Governing Council.
