Counseling Supervision
Sarasota Grief Counseling offers individual and group supervision to Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns who have completed a Masters degree.
What is counseling supervision?
One of the most important parts of becoming a counselor is gaining clinical and administrative experience so that you’re well prepared for the challenges that practice will present. A required component of your training, counseling supervision provides the structure necessary to deliver your clients the best care and ensure you’re adhering to ethical, legal, and professional standards as you embark on your career as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
How it Works
Within two years of graduating, Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns must accrue 1,500 hours of face-to-face psychotherapy with clients and 100 hours of supervision under a qualified supervisor. Counselor Supervision at Sarasota Grief Counseling offers the framework you need to satisfy those requirements and complete your training in order to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Each hour in our office will include review of your self reports, process notes, and audio & video recordings plus expertise and advice on organizing your practice and managing the administrative functions of counseling.

Eligibility
Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns who have completed their Masters degree and wish to enter private practice at the end of their two-year postgraduate residency are eligible for Sarasota Grief Counseling’s program.
Accreditation
Sarasota Grief Counseling meets the 2016 CACREP Standards and the ACA Code of Ethics as set forth by the ACA Governing Council. All counseling interns are supervised by Executive Director Karen L. Hildreth, MA MHC, LMHC, a State of Florida Quality-Assured Counselor Supervisor.
Individual Supervision
$75.00/hour
Individual Supervision is one-to-one supervision completed in the Sarasota Grief Counseling office and includes oversight of:
- Self Reports: Recollection and discussion of therapy sessions with the supervising counselor
- Process Notes: Review of supervisee’s account of internal and external occurrences in sessions
- Audio + Video Recordings: Review of supervisee’s recordings of live therapy sessions
You’ll also learn best practices for administrative processes like coordinating time and appointments, maintaining appropriate records, and managing payment.
Group Supervision
$60.00/hour
A more affordable alternative to individual supervision, group supervision provides all of the benefits of individual supervision while allowing you to meet your hours requirements at a reduced rate by combining supervision with up to two other supervisees during your hour.
